Sample packs selling as a way of life

I’m really happy to announce that I was able to run an interview with one of the sample packs selling companies from England. I hope you will enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed talking…

SP: Hello, my guest here is the founder of Lucidsamples.com from London, one of the biggest sample selling brand. We are going to talk a bit about your brand. I’m sure that the readers are curious, how did it all start, what made you think „I’m going to sell samples through the Internet”?

LS: Oh, hello! It is a pleasure to sit here with you. As you said, I’m a part of Lucidsamples, a record label which many music enhusiasts could get to know about.

Well, most of my friends are related somehow to the topic of making music. There are musicians, producers, Djs and band managers. They are experienced professionals. When we meet, most of our discussions is about music. I can say that the music is what make us alive. Many times we were making big plans about our own record label. And one day we thought: why not?

So what you are trying to tell me is that the story behind a big and recognizable brand is a sunday afternoon barbecue?

Not exactly. I think the decision was made during a coffee break. We started we started in 2010 and continue to develop even today. There are so many people who tell you: „Take your fate in your hands” and things like that. It is not easy, it requires so much time and effort… But running your own business is really satisfying. The only thing more satisfying is when you see that effect of your work helps other people with their own goals and dreams.

I guess you are good at taking your fate in your hands. Two years ago you have merged with an older brand. Can you tell me more about this?

Yes. The Producer Pack brand has been cooperating with us for a long period of time. As in 2014 our brands have merged we decided to use the name Lucidsamples. Although Producer Pack label was older, Lucidsamples was a bit more recognizable and was growing fast. You can find out more about this on the Producer Pack website. We are maintaining this domain to keep our clients well informed about the changes. One could say: to remain lucid.

The result of this fusion was ability to share great experience and work together to refine our products, broaden our offer and simplify the way buying sample packs.

You sell your products on the Internet. You cooperate with many artist worldwide. Where is your company headquarter?

We are not virtual. You are UK based company located in London. We also have our own recording studio to maintain and revise the quality of or sound. We want everything we offer to be high quality, clear – we want our samples to be lucid. The thing is that we cooperate with musicians and music producers from across the globe. Many of them are well known artist. They send to us their sounds. It is natural that every recording studio has different sound, they produce it in slightly different way. We sometimes have to polish one thing or two to fit in one package. If we wouldn’t do that, they would recall few sets of puzzle put in one box.

Speaking of technical issues, what can you say about the samples you offer? Why are they unique, where can be used and are there any limits of usage?

The samples, sample packs and effect packages we offer are completely unique. They are made by us or exclusively for us. You will not find them in other places. We know that if you want to make something special, the tools you use must be special.

On the other hand our samples are very versatile. They come in several formats, like WAV, AIFF, Rex2, MIDI. We can offer Loops Samples, One Shot Samples, Drum Sounds, Drum Loops, DJ Samples, Synth Loops, Sound Effects/ FX Sounds, Midi Samples, Multisamples, Construction Kits, Acapella Vocals.

Our products are tested to be compatible with most popular DAW programs including Ableton Live, Acid Pro, Cakewalk Sonar, Steinberg Cubase, Garage Band, FL Studio, Logic Pro, PreSonus Studio One, Pro Tools, Reason, Sony Acid and many more. Even now our team is performing software tests with several new workstations including mobile platforms.

It is also possible to browse lucidsamples.com resources by musical genres. Our focus is to prepare EDM sample packs, as: Classic house, Dance, Deep House, Drum and Bass, Electro, Fidget house, Funky house, Garage, Glitch, Grime, Hands Up, Hardcore, Hardstyle, House, Industrial, Latin House, Tech, Techno, Trance, Trap, Tribal House, Old Skool, Psy Trance.

Still, you can find sound samples for more relaxing moods like Chillout, Cinematic, or Minimal. And of course more classic themes like Dancehall, Dub, Dubstep, Hip Hop, Pop, Reggae, Rock, Soca and even World Music.

This all sounds very impressive. Do you have any further plans?

We constantly improve our website. We remaster our records and make new ones in our studio. We are going to release some new materials soon. Right now we are gathering informations what is needed, what to develop. We added phone support as well as we maintain an e-mail support. Everyone can send us a message and leave a feedback.

The competition in our business is strong. New brands rise and fall while some others watch each other carefully. Producing samples and distributing sample packs is not a big field so you have to work really hard not to fall behind.

That was exactly what I was going to ask you about. Do you know your rivals well?

You should know much about others as you can learn much from them. If you come out with a good idea, you have to realize that someone will eventually copy it.

What is more important than competition is to remain in cooperation. Sometimes we email each other, sometimes we even say „Hey, you did a great job there!”. We are normal people, we don’t want any rat races here. At the same time we are constantly looking for new partners to work with.

I see. I think we know more about you today thanks to this conversation. It was a great pleasure. Thank you.

I have been honoured to guest one of the Lucidsamples.com founders. Be sure to check their website and try out what do they have in stock. They have also a rich knowledge base about DAW programs, tips and tricks which can be found at their blog.
